Technology

The number one barrier to faster Virtual Reality (VR) adoption has been lack of content. Plus VR games generally have much simpler game play and can become boring in a short while. In addition, a typical VR system requires much higher computing performance and more expensive computer to achieve the same framerate performance as a typical video game. In contrast conventional video games have much more sophisticated game play and story lines which can take a gamer many months to a year to play through a version just in time for the next version to come out in the fall.

So what VIZN Gaming has achieved is a technology that can convert much of the last 30 years of conventional video games into full 360 3D VR plug-&-play with no changes to existing installed gaming software. It creates a virtual reality experience that puts the gamer or user inside the content. And it doesn't require additional computer processing performance.

UltraVRâ„¢ is a revolutionary new Virtual Reality technology that was invented to work the way game-engine based content works. This is in contrast to conventional VR gaming which is layered on top of a technology intended for 360 video and requires a lot of additional computing power but achieves far less visual resolution detail.

Conventional VR gaming technology takes linear game environments inherent in games and renders a 360 view around the player that is mapped into a 360 polar coordinate 4K video frame which is split between left and right eye views. It then needs to extract a small portion of the split-4K frame that is viewed in each eye and convert it back into linear display space and additional distortion correction inherent in VR headsets. This requires a large amount of additional computing in excess of a normal video game .

This is a key reason that VR computers have to be very high performance and expensive to do all this computing and keep head-turning viewing motion smooth. A typical conventional VR headset may only display one sixteenth of a 4K frame in each eye. Thus the visual experience is low resolution even if the headset has high resolution displays inside. Because of this, conventional approach to VR gaming will not achieve the eye resolution experience vision of the industry. Only UltraVR approach can achieve this. To achieve the same visual experience of UltraVR, Conventional VR would need to be based upon not 4K video, not 8K video, but 16K video. And at our planned UltraVR professional level, conventional VR would need to be based upon 64K video. This will not happen for decades.

In contrast, UltraVR works the way game-engine content works. As in a conventional video game, just the player's linear view is rendered at full monitor resolution from the surrounding game environment. UltraVR technology converts this full monitor resolution to high-quality 3D VR using a new type of artificially intelligent neural-net which mimics actual human brain cells. It does this in less than two milliseconds latency which is faster than a single human brain cell and for the first time is fast enough to be used for a VR application. And it renders VR headset motion to game controller joystick motion creating a smooth 360 experience. UltraVR technology has never been before been possible until these new patented and patent-pending technologies were recently achieved.

Because the A.I. based superconverter is implemented in a custom hardware pipeline, its computing performance is on the equivalent order of 100 server processors enabling an unprecedented quality of conversion at real-time speed. Because of the efficiency of the computing far exceeds the operation of software running on processors, it requires much less power and can even be put in mobile devices via a future microchip. Since this computing is not performed on the PC or console hardware, the resulting experience is beyond what can be achieved with software-based solutions, and is lower cost, substantially higher performance per watt, and is a far higher visual resolution experience.
